What to wear for a better business portrait

Tips for Women …

Necklines and face shape are very important. For example if you have a round face consider wearing a vee neck top that’s open for 3”to 6” this will stretch your face an give the illusion of slimmer features or if you have a long thin neck wear something that stops the viewers eye like a high round neck top similar to a turtleneck.

Style of Clothing is usually what your client will see you in day to day , but a good rule of thumb is wear layers for a portrait. A light blouse or top with a darker jacket is always safe and jewelry should be simple accent pieces -gold rope instead of large necklace -earrings studs or just small. Remember, we want the client to see you , not your accessories.

Make up … first a good foundation (to stop glare on your face ) use a liquid powder or a matte foundation . For more cheek bones a lot of blush and more lipstick than you would normally wear , it’s very important to remember that the camera will remove about 50% of all your makeup. Every day someone tells me that she doesn’t like to wear a lot of make up and when she views her portraits she will always say “I look tired, washed out and older !” yes, wear more make up for portraits !

Tips for Men …

Style of Clothing for the majority of men the traditional light shirt and dark suit of sport coat still gives an air of trust and competence. Keep the tie simple , bring several if your not sure, blues and reds with a little pattern always looks good. Pants … please wear matching suit or dress pants even if you think it’s going to be a close up … some of our best portraits are 3/4 and show a little bit of pant.

A Change of Style is something we are doing a lot of right now . Half way through the portrait your welcome to change clothes into a more casual style . For example a golf shirt and khaki’s makes an good informal look on your website or The European Look is something you might want to try—that’s a dark tee shirt under a light jacket or a dark shirt , dark tie under a grey suit jacket …. This might be just the thing to set you apart from your competitors !
And Last but not Least … get a hair cut, I’m not kidding, every week at least two executives walk in looking like the shaggy dog … it will really create a better look with tidy hair.

DO YOU WANT NEW CLIENTS ?

This is the digital age and let’s face it, nobody buys a loaf of bread without checking out a website first. You need to let your new clients know who you are and what you look like so they will feel comfortable picking up the phone and calling you …and isn’t that what we all want ? Sure it is !
